Wii Fit was created because Nintendo realized how much exercise people were getting from regular Wii play time. You start off the game(workout?) doing some basic balance exercises to find out your Wii Fit age as well as your BMI. Most people will be pretty surprised, as I was to what their BMI classifies them. Throughout the process you unlock additional workouts and or games, and challenge your friends to get the best score.
Title: Wii Fit
The Good:
This game isn’t really a game, its just a ton of mini games, just like every other Nintendo Wii game. The things that make Wii Fit great are: Getting real exercise, these workout don’t mess around; It’s tons of fun for groups while you try to beat each others scores; Some of the exercises are really challenging such as the the strength training and yoga exercises. The mini games are really fun and unique. I specifically like the bubble one which seems near impossible at times, but makes you want to try again and again until you finish. It really forces you to focus on your balance control, keeping you motivated by making you depressed. lol. Negative reinforcement?
The Bad:
Although this game is mostly fun and very different, it does have its faults. Starting off, for some reason there is a lot of wait time between exercises. To get in a 30 minute workout takes almost an hour! Very irritating and un-productive. The game is lacking advanced features such as how many calories burned, which a lot of people use to gauge their weight loss. If you have a lot of friends you will find that the ability to store individual Mii activity is lacking. Nintendo decided it was a good idea to only have 8 Mii’s at one time. We find ourselves constantly deleting Mii’s losing whatever progress was saved under their name. The yoga and strength training workouts aren’t very exciting its pretty much like doing a workout on your own, except the Wii is telling you what to do, no different then a Yoga DVD rental would do. It would be nice if they added some pop and jazz to the strength training and yoga workout modes.
Closing:
I would recommend this to mid-core gamers with a slightly higher budget. Wii Fit is 89.99 + tax. The game is fun for short periods of time and definitely gives a good workout. It’s cool to say you have it and played it. I also don’t think this is an extremely good workout replacement. It takes way to much time in between mini games to be convenient for people with little time on their hands. Not only that but where is the two player mode? What if you want to exercise with a partner, not only would you need two Wii Board’s but two TV’s and two Wii’s!
Game Length: 1 Hour a day, 20 Hours a month for good workout.
Relationship Status: Very Good
Health Risk: Massive improvement in health!
Price: $89.99 Wii - via Amazon
Final Verdict: 5 out of 10
