Today I am writing a mid-core gamer review for Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. You can read more about my reviews in my first review here.

The Good:

I have heard many good things about the Super Smash Bros. games. Before this edition came out on the Wii, I had personally never played it. The game, for the most part, goes so fast and so frenzied that you feel like you are on drugs, yet that’s what makes it fun, very fun, especially with your friends. Between the insane attacking, dying, jumping to safety, and barely surviving the pummel from your friends, the battles are extremely enjoyable. The single player/co-op mode adds a lot to the game, because you and a buddy are able to play together for the common goal while unlocking multiple characters in the process. Seeing some of the cool characters like Solid Snake, Sonic, and Fox is also a nice addition to Super Smash Bros. Brawl which I have heard were not in the originals! The single player campaign reminds me of the good ol’ days of Double Dragon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Golden Axe. Overall, I’d say the game is really fun for short periods of time.

The Bad:

Although this game has some awesome positive features, one can’t forget the negatives such as the campaign mode can be sometimes too repetitive and boring. Also, the online play is very discouraging for mid-core gamers due to the fact that everyone is really good and they don’t pair you with people in your range and skill level so you get your butt kicked right away. As well as the fact that your son or little brother might very well kick your butt due to their quicker reflexes and in the process make you feel old. Some of the moves are confusing and you may feel like you are only hitting them out of luck, but somehow the experienced gamers get it right every time.

Closing:

I would say only 50% of the mid-core gamers will enjoy Super Smash Bros. Brawl to its fullest (myself being one of these but only for short periods of time). This is due to the difficult multiplayer mode, sluggish single player format, and the likelihood of the game only being fun for 30 to 45 minute battles with friends.

Game Length: 8-12 Hours
Relationship Status: Pottentially Improved
Health Risk: Minor, as long as you stay away from multiplayer.
Price: $49.99 New $43.00 Used Wii - via Amazon
Final Verdict: 6.5 out of 10

This is exactly what I suspected from this game. Good job putting it into a Midcore” perspective.

So…I actually played this one and I would have to agree with you seanbajuice!! It is only fun for short periods of time. Much better if you are playing with others.

wow, 6.5 only? i agree with some of the downs and the ups, but 6.5? the masters gametrailers gave it like a 9.4, you do realize that if this game is a 6.5 in your terms, other decent games would be like 2s and 3s

  5. DUCKMAN MEGADEATH Says:

I agree with most things you say, but I disagree with your rating! 6.5?! AT LEAST make it a 7…I would personally give it a 9….

You should give into peer pressure more often when rating.
