Today I am writing a mid-core gamer review for Devil May Cry 4 for XBOX 360 and PS3. I will be focusing on the XBOX 360 version, but they are very similar, minus load times. You can read more about my reviews in my first review here.
The Good:
Devil May Cry 3 was the first and only Devil May Cry game I had played, until now. My first experience with the Devil May Cry series, I found to be very hard and frustrating at times, definitely not something for the mid-core crowd. However, Devil May Cry 4 is very much that of what a mid-core gamer would like to experience. The game has a good amount of cut-scenes, which I love, providing the player with some much needed entertainment. Devil May Cry 4 begins with the main character(nero),aka YOU, in a church listening to some music. Without any warning a guy that resembles Dante, from Devil May Cry 3, jumps down and kills the priest. This is the point at which you jump into the game and begin your journey as the character. The combat is simple and fun, a lot of button mashing combos, although nothing that a mid-core gamer can’t handle. The levels move quickly, and the puzzles are simple and fun. The boss battles are intense and extremely entertaining, after beating them you scream out, “Heck YES!, Booya!” because you feel really accomplished.
The Bad:
I only found one major flaw that dissappointed me in Devil May Cry 4. When you hit a certain place in the game you are required to leave behind,Nero, and forced to play as Dante. Now as Dante you begin your journey again, and by again I mean re living the same scenes, and coming up against the exact same bosses! Can you imagine? Definitely becomes a little redundant. Paying full price for a video game that just circles you around, to save on some creative cash flow. I love Dante, but repeating myself I’m not a big fan of. I didn’t spend 7 hours on a video game conquering evil just to do it again. Come on! Talk about messing with a mans ego! I think Capcom got kinda lazy in that department. There is one other small issue. Sometimes it can become a little overwhelming and you can get confused as to where your supposed to go. I started to feel like I was just wondering around hopelessly. But then again, they do make you play the same game twice!!
Closing:
I would recommend this to a mid-core gamer with a higher budget and slightly more free time. The game starts off easy and very doo-able for mid-core gamers. After some time it begins to become increasingly more difficult and frustrating. Not only that but playing the same bosses twice is just down-right dumb. Mid-core gamers, rent this first before deciding to buy, and definitely buy it at the used price.
